A Wabbit's T'Ale
(The 2005 California Morris Ale)Duck Season! Wabbit Season! Duck Season! Wabbit Season!...... A collaborative effort by Faultline Morris, FFL Morris, and White Rats Morris |
Style: Border
Tunes: “Jump at the Sun", "Oyster Girl" (or any driving jig)
Dance created by Rogue Morris.
Foreman's Notes: Long stick dance for 6 (3-couple set). Single stepping throughout. Sticking is tips alternating rights and lefts (some people do this as tips and butts). Stick on shoulder when not in use.
Musician's Notes: Pattern is AAB
(which is not how the tune is normally played).
Sequence: Worchester Hey; stars on the side; hey, half rounds; hey; stars
on the side; hey, half rounds; hey off in pairs.
A: Worchester Hey
1 & 2 lead down through the center of the set turn out to face each other at the bottom. At the same time, 3 & 4, and 5 & 6 turn out towards the bottom and face away for two single steps, then face up the set with two single steps to progress one position, two single steps to come back in, and two single steps in place. This sequence repeats two more times (from new progressed positions each time), and ends with eight clashes with partner back in original positions.
B: Stars on the Side
1 turns out left hand to 3 and 5, as they move up the set to make a star (each grabbing wrist of the next), going round once (8 single steps), followed by 8 clashes with partner.
As the same time, 2 does the same with 4 & 6 (mirroring), but turning out to the right (so the stick must be switched to left hand/left shoulder).
A: Worchester Hey
B: Half Rounds
All turn out CW and dance half way round the circle to opposite place (8 single steps), followed by 8 clashes with partner.
(NOTE: the set is now turned around with respect to the room, but the movements with respect to the set do NOT change).
A: Worchester Hey
B: Stars on the Side
A: Worchester Hey
B: Half Rounds
A: Worchester Hey Off in Pairs
Same as normal except as each pair leads down the center, they keep going (away from the set and usually towards the nearest libation).
Alternate ending: some folk like to do a final "normal" Worchester Hey before using a 2nd one to do the Hey Off.
