Maps

Here's a map of the Headland Institute

Here's a more detailed map, should you be the type of person that likes that

Here's a link to Google Maps showing where the camp is located.

The directions provided by the Headlands Institute are accurate and reasonable, yet they do not quite convey the nature of the drive once you are off the highway. They mention "drive through the tunnel." This is a *single* *lane* tunnel for *two* *way* traffic; the way they make it work is by having a signal on a 10 minute cycle (i.e. 5 minutes in each direction). Once you are through the tunnel, it is about 2.5 to 3 miles to the campus. The site is virtually at the beach, so if you cannot see the ocean, you are not there yet.

We will post signs with the Beyond the Pale Ale artwork in some likely locations to help mark the way.

Lodging will be in the Heron and Pelican Dorms. Dancing is in the Sunset Building, more or less at the opposite end of the campus. The campfire circle is just west of the Houston Dining Hall, where, to no surprise, is where we shall dine.

When you Arrive

Please check in with our registrars. They will direct you to your lodging, settle any financial issues, distribute t-shirts, and probably offer insolent remarks cloaked in innocent smiles.

We will set up registration in the Pelican Dorm. As the evening wears on and the flow of arrivals thins out, we may move the registration to the dance hall (i.e. the Sunset Building). After, all, we don't want to strand our registrars away from the fun. That would be, well, beyond the pale.

We need help shuttling our out-of-town friends on Sunday to the Sunday tour/pub stop and onwards to their flights home. There will be a sign-up sheet at the registration desk to hook up those who can offer rides with those who need them.

If you anticipate arriving late, say after midnight, please give us a heads-up by dropping a line to our registrar at ale2007-register@googlegroups.com.

Camp Timetable

Friday, April 13:

6:00 PM--The Ale is open!  Pick-up dancing and generally revelry ensues!  We will provide drinks and snacks, but not dinner, so cover your bases on that score.

Saturday:

8:00 AM - 9:30 AM--Breakfast is on.
9:00 AM--Busses start boarding.  Yes, this overlaps with breakfast.  It will work.
[Touring as above]
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM--Dinner is served.
After dinner, the generally revelry continues.
9:00 PM - 11:00 PM--Campfire is burning again.

Sunday:

9:30 AM - 11:00 AM--Breakfast is on!
9:00 AM - 11:00 AM--The road out of camp is closed for a running event. Make your plans accordingly!
Noon--Camp closes!  Time to move up the road.
After noon, we converge on the Pyramid Brewery in Berkeley for yet more dancing.  This will continue as long as six fools and a muso remain. Cover charge to start, then pay-as-you-go.

What to bring

The Dorms have stripped down bunk beds; bring whatever bedding you require (unless you've already made arrangements to rent bedding from HI).

There are communal bathrooms with flush toilets and hot showers; bring your own toiletries. And towels.

There are coin-op laundry facilities for those of you who would rather be doing laundry on Saturday night.
It might cool off at night, so warm clothes are in order.

You might want a small flashlight, particularly if you're inclined to a midnight walk on the beach.

You do not need to bring fun. We'll be making that fresh on-site.

A Final Note

Tom Whitmore, whom many of you know, will be joining us during the dance sessions and in the mornings before we depart camp. Besides being a charming conversationalist, Tom is a first rate massage therapist. He will be offering massage services at a sliding scale. What could be better for preparing you for dancing as your day starts, or repairing the day's strains so you can continue to dance all night?
